We believe in the private sector – and the healthcare industry’s – power to do immense good. It is inherent in our role discovering, developing, and ensuring access to medicines and vaccines for patients around the world. Often, this good comes from working with others – innovative collaborations in the race to respond to the Ebola outbreak, to develop the world’s first malaria vaccine, and the quest to save one million children’s lives through our global partnership with Save the Children.
We also believe it comes from being more transparent – our willingness to be open about the results of our scientific research in order to help spur medical advancement – and transformative – stepping out in front to change the way medicines are sold and marketed to demonstrate an understanding of our customers’ needs, society’s expectations, and to ensure we’re always operating with the patient front of mind.
So it’s fitting that today our CEO, Sir Andrew Witty, will speak at the Business for Social Responsibility Conference 2014 in New York about these topics, and our firm belief that transparency, transformation, and collaboration will help ensure we achieve long-term, sustainable commercial success at the same time as meeting society’s needs.
We’re long-time members of this organization, which each year brings together corporate and civil society leaders from around the world who are driving change inside and outside their organizations to explore the role of business in society and we’re excited to help kick off the three-day meeting.
